Discover How Jessie Frye Got Into Synthwave And What It Was Like Touring With FM-84!
Updated: Aug 2, 2019
Last week, I introduced you to Jessie Frye's music through a quiz, which a lot of you took part in (I'm really happy that you guys loved it). If you missed out on the quiz, don't worry you can still joy in on the fun! Click here.
This week, I want to share with you an interview I had with Jessie Frye, where she discusses how she got into Synthwave, touring with the amazing FM-84 and more!
So, let's get into it!
Jessie Frye: It was a total dream! I did not want to come home. They are really great people. We had a blast each night. The venues, crowds and travel experiences were unforgettable.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with FM-84, they are a Synthwave band who have had many hit songs, one of my favourites being 'Running in the Night'. They recently toured in late June, to five different states in Amercia, with Jessie has the opening act!
Jessie Frye: I view songwriting as just a way of life. It’s kind of like my modus operandi. My creative channel is always open and songwriting is how I make sense out of life- so I am inspired by anything from a photograph I see to a personal experience.
Jessie Frye: Ollie Wride, Timecope1983, FM-84 and Gunship are my favorites.
Jessie Frye: I wrote a collaboration song Faded Memory with Timecop1983 and released it as a single. I had no idea that it would grow into what it is now. I’ve been making music since 2009 that floats between pop and rock. However, I don’t Iike to put myself in a box when it comes to genre. I leave that up to the fans. I want to be diverse, always create honestly and serve the song. However, I have enjoyed adding elements of synthwave into my style and intend on adding my own personal twist to synthwave as I continue to release music.
Faded Memory currently has reached over 200,000+ views on YouTube, which is amazing for Jessie's introduction into the synthwave community!
Jessie Frye: Me and Ollie Wride are collaborating on a song we wrote. So that is one to check off the list for sure! I would also love to collaborate with Robert Smith of The Cure, NIN or Marilyn Manson.
Before I get to Jessie's answer, let me turn the question over to you guys. Which song do you like more: Fantasy or Angel?
For me, I personally prefer Fantasy over Angel, mainly because of the dark sensual tone of the lyrics and visuals. But I love them both!
Jessie Frye: I love to perform both. Each song is vocally demanding in its own way. Fantasy is especially personal to me so I love seeing the fans connect to it.
First of I just want to give a big thank you to Jessie Frye for being a part of this blog, I appreciate it! If you haven't already, don't forget to follow Jessie on social media for updates on new music, tours and more. I'll leave the links down below.
But wait... It doesn't stop there!
Can't get enough of Jessie Frye? Well guess what? Jessie just announced an acoustic and intimate performance at the Cafe Solo Studios in Denton Texas. And here's a bonus, there will be a meet and greet right after the show! So not only are you getting an unplugged rendition of her songs in an intimate setting. But you also get to meet Jessie Frye! I would LIVE to hear an acoustic version of her song Fantasy and meet her in person, but I live in the UK *insert sad face here*
But if you live in Texas, I know this is going to be an unforgettable experience so support my girl, Jessie and enjoy this blissful acoustic evening.
